Celebrate Yourself
let me help you be generous with yourself for a change
Be proud, be proud of yourself, what you've achieved, what you are.
Not when you have done enough, achieved enough, become enough. Not once the list is finished or the goal is reached or someone else has confirmed that yes, now, you have earned it.
Now. As you are. For what you have already done and for who you already are.
Most are not well practised at this. The tradition runs the other way, towards modesty, towards deflection, towards the well-worn habit of saying it was nothing. Well, it was not nothing. It was something. And the person who did it, who carried it, who kept going through it, that person deserves a moment of being seen. Even if the only one doing the seeing is you.
This is not about achievement alone. It is about who you are in the living of your life. How you show up when it is hard. How you treat people when you are tired, or afraid, or under pressure. The way you carry things quietly, without fuss, without requiring the world to notice. The small dignities you maintain when nobody is watching.
Think of one moment in the last year when you were more than the situation required. When you were kind when you did not have to be. Patient when it cost you something. Present for someone when part of you wanted to be elsewhere.
Now mark it. Not by moving on. Not by saying yes but. By actually stopping.
Say it to yourself the way you would say it to someone you love. Out loud if you can. In the quiet of your own mind if that is all there is. Tell yourself what you did. Tell yourself it mattered. Give yourself the acknowledgement you would not hesitate to give someone else in the same situation.
That is the celebration. Not a performance. Not a list. Just you, finally, being as generous with yourself as you are with everyone else.
You deserve that. You always have.
