Lay It Down

When you have carried that load for long enough
Come then. You've carried it long enough for today. You don't need much. Your hands. A candle if you have one, a match will do. Somewhere to sit that's yours. Light the candle. Or the match, and watch it a moment before it goes. That small flame is the last of what this was. Let it be that. Now sit. Put your hands in your lap, palms up. Open. Not grasping, not holding. Just open. This is how you receive and it is also how you release: the same hands, the same gesture. Women have always known this. Breathe out slowly. All of it. The day, the weight of it, what was said and what wasn't, what you did and what you couldn't. Out. You don't have to resolve it. You don't have to understand it yet. You only have to put it down for the night. If there's a candle, blow it out now. Watch the smoke rise and go. That's it going. That's you letting it. Sit in the dark a moment. Just a moment. You did enough today. More than you know. The rest will keep until morning or it won't need keeping at all. That's all. You're done now. Sleep well.
