Why Am I Not Asleep
Let me help you put the day down and find your way to sleep
The day is done now.
Everything that happened today has already happened. There is nothing in the next few hours that requires your mind to be anywhere but here, in this body, in this darkness, doing the one thing it was made to do at the end of a day.
Let the list go. It will be there in the morning. The things you forgot, the things you should have said, the things you are worried about, they will all still exist tomorrow. But tonight, they cannot be helped by your thinking about them. Tonight they need you to be somewhere else.
Your body has been working all day. Your heart has been beating. Your lungs have been breathing. Without being asked, without a moment's rest, quietly and faithfully, your body has been doing its work. Let it do this one too. Let it carry you down into the dark.
There is nothing to solve right now.
The morning will come whether you sleep or not, and it will be better if you do.
Breathe out longer than you breathe in. Do it again. And again.
The day is done. You have done enough. Let go.
